The Psychedelic Furs Take over the Wellmont

Brit Pop goes Pretty in Pink

The Psychedelic Furs took the stage at The Wellmont Theater this past Friday night kicking off the last week of their tour. Known for their poetic and enigmatic lyrics, the Furs attracted all ages and played for a full house.

The crowd was truly taken on a time warp back to the 80’s. The show kicked off with the sax-infused classic “Heartbeat” which took the crowd back to feeling young and carefree again. Lead singer,Richard Butler fueled the crowd’s enthusiasm with his high-energy performance and heartfelt verses. The mix of English punk rock and the smooth infusion of Mars Williams’s saxophone make the Psychedelic Furs’s music unique, infectious and undeniably easy to get hooked on. It was clear that the Furs were having as much fun, if not more, than the crowd.

The show included some of the Furs’s greatest hits like “The Ghost in You”, “All of This and Nothing” and “Heaven”.

One song that really got the crowd excited was “Pretty in Pink” which shot to the tops of charts when it was featured in John Hughes’s classic 1986 movie, Pretty in Pink, starring Molly Ringwald. Audience members were brought back to their prom night memories as couples slow danced with each other to the nostalgic hit.

It was clear that the crowd couldn’t get enough of the Furs’s music as with every song the energy in the room increased. The crowd danced, air-drummed and sang their hearts out. The show left the audience with nostalgic vibes, good feelings and a great night. Upcoming shows at the Wellmont Theatre include Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience, Dark Star Orchestra and Missing Persons.
