Rihanna Wants to Help Pay for Your College Degree!

The Grammy winner announced a new scholarship program through her foundation.

Rihanna and her charity, the Clara Lionel Foundation, are going to grant scholarships to college students for the upcoming school year.

That’s right, Rihanna wants to help you go to college.

The Grammy-winning singer and songwriter has announced a global scholarship program through her Clara Lionel Foundation, which will award scholarships to international and US students going to college in the US.

“To be able to give the gift of an education is actually an honor,” Rihanna said when she announced her new project. “Higher education will help provide perspective, opportunities and learning to a group of kids who really deserve it. I am thrilled to be able to do this.”

In order to be eligible for Rihanna’s scholarships, applicants must be a resident of either Barbados, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Guyana, Jamaica, or the United States and have already been accepted at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the 2016-2017 school year.

Rihanna launched the foundation in 2012, in honor of her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. The foundation funds grants to promote global programs in the areas that Rihanna is most passionate about: health, education and arts and culture. To date, the CLF has opened the Clara Braithwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados, the Barbados Micro Grants for Schools Program, and now most recently the Global Scholarship Program. The foundation has raised tens of millions of dollars for charitable causes over the years.

Scholarships granted will range from $5,000 to $50,000 and make be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned. Applications are being accepted until June 10, 2016 on the Clara Lionel Foundation website.

A committee will screen 50 finalists based on academic performance, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience and a personal essay, and the scholarship winners will be announced by August 2016.
