MSU turns into a newsroom

Students from the Communication Department helped different online news websites develop a election heat map

It was a very interesting night for Prof. Debbie Galant’s class “All News is Local” . Students were given he opportunity to gather information from different county clerk’s offices to help develop heat maps for both the gubernatorial election and the legislative district election. This heat map was posted on  NJ Spotlight and NJ News Commons. The gubernatorial results were no shock to New Jersey residents. Governor Chris Christie obliterated senator Barbara Buono on the governor race with a 60.4% against 38.1%. Students were very intrigued as they witnessed first hand the outcome of this election and the process of developing the heat map that went along with it. They seemed to enjoy all of the excitement that goes into working late on an election night.

Click on a district to see the latest results for NJ legislative contests. Democratic districts are in blue, Republicans are in red and those with split representation are in pink. The darker the color, the larger the margin of victory. All results are in real time and all are unofficial until certified by state election officials later this month.
