Dave Mustaine Brings Megadeth to the Quiet Streets of Montclair

The Most Dangerous Band on the Planet meets the Wellmont Theater

When you show up to a thrash metal concert you expect to see a very specific crowd. However when Megadeth showed up at the Wellmont Theatre, they brought with them an eclectic mix of people of all ages, their dark show matching only the darkness in the hearts of fans. More importantly though, Megadeth kept it metal.

To truly give you a vivid description of the incredible show, we must start in the ladies room. More importantly, we start in the line. If you stood in line at the ladies room of the Wellmont on this particular night you would find metal babes teetering on huge heels and puckering up for red lipstick; hipster girls who were as apathetic and uncaring as their disheveled heads and grandma. Yes, grandma coming out of the stall in a black Megadeth shirt and bandana in tow. This could come as little or no to surprise to you when you think of the band’s rap sheet. Having formed in 1983, Megadeth has released over a dozen studio albums. With 30 years of chaos, drugs and head banging, it’s no wonder that the band has maintained its reputation as one of the essential contributors and innovators in thrash metal. The most recent album “Super Collider” came out this past June and was released under founding guitarist Dave Mustaine’s label Tradecraft.

As for the show itself, Fear Factory and Non Point opened up the night. There was moshing, screaming and crowd surfing. Megadeth not only played incredibly, they also put on an amazing show using three huge screens behind them that flashed in unison with different graphics, colors and even scenes. They played various songs including “In My Darkest Hour”, “Sweating Bullets” and “Peace Sells”. The band even came back on stage for an encore with “Holy Wars… The Punishment Due”.

It seems that these songs continue to bring fans for more and attract all generations of young, old and elderly. Catch future shows at the Wellmont such as Lupe Fiasco, The Cult, Cheap Trick and Bob Weir & Ratdog.
