Carpe Diem: The Importance of Critical Incident Drills

Airing on CARPE DIEM November 24-28, 2014
This week’s episode of Carpe Diem takes a deeper look at law enforcements’ new tactics in handling critical incidents, such as active shooters in schools or other public places. In the summer of 2013, the West Orange Police Department conducted one of the largest full scale active school shooter drills in New Jersey and just recently orchestrated another one in a local movie theater.

Our guests include Lieutenant John Morella and Officer Scott Smarsh of the West Orange Police Department, who have both been spearheading these active shooter drills to prepare and train first responders in handling and controlling critical situations.

Also featured in this episode is a one minute trailer for the upcoming half hour long documentary, “Critical Incident Critical Response” and an interview with the documentary’s producer, Krystal Acosta, talking about Montclair State’s Broadcast and Media Operations partnership with the West Orange Police Department and the documentary.
This episode was produced and hosted by TVDM major Rob Rowan and directed by TVDM major, Joe Lees.
