Airing on CARPE DIEM March 31st – April 4th, 2014
Host Merrill Brown, director of the School of Communication and Media at Montclair State University, sits down with PropPublica’s Stephen Engelberg to talk about his career as a journalist, ProPublica investigations, and news in the U.S.
Engelberg is currently the Editor-in-Chief of ProPublica – an independent, non-profit, on-line investigative newsroom that distributes compelling stories on the web and with mainstream media partners such as New York Times, WNYC, ABC 20/20, and CBS’s 60 minutes. He oversees the organization’s day-to-day editorial operations, long term projects, and web strategy.
Before joining ProPublica, he worked for the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, The Dallas Morning News, and The New York Times – where he established the investigative unit while he was a reporter based in Washington, D.C. and in Warsaw, Poland. He also worked for The Oregonian of Portland, where he supervised investigative projects and news coverage. In 2012, he was elected to the 19-member Pulitzer Prize Board composed mainly of leading editors or news executives from media outlets across the nation.
This episode was produced and hosted by the director of the School of Communication and Media at Montclair State, Merrill Brown and directed by TVDM major, Michael Panepinto.
