Carpe Diem: New frontiers in higher education

Airing on CARPE DIEM November 3-7, 2014

Host Larry Londino, a professor from the School of Communication and Media at Montclair State, is joined by Steve McCarthy, news producer for the University as well as part time professor in the School, and Sofia Chavez, an alum from the TVDM program and former student of McCarthy’s.

Before coming to Montclair State, McCarthy had a distinguished career as a video journalist, producing award-winning packages for 60 Minutes and Dateline. Since joining the School of Communication and Media in 2011, McCarthy has produced a number of probing webcasts on a multitude of subjects such as bullying, The Arab Spring, and 9/11. McCarthy has taught a number of media courses and provided opportunities for students to travel abroad.

On this episode of Carpe Diem, we cover one of his most unique courses called News Production Lab. This course gives students the opportunity to produce their own stories about New Jersey and make them available to the vast internet audience through WIREDJERSEY.com.

This episode was produced by TVDM major, Orlando Hurtado, hosted by professor Larry Londino, and directed by TVDM major, Brianna Seneca.
