Bob Weir and Ratdog Play Sold-Out Show at the Wellmont

Ratdog's 900th Show Brings the Jam to Montclair

On February 20th, 2014, The Wellmont Theater hosted a performer who helped reshaped the jam rock genre. This performer was none other than celebrated Grateful Dead guitarist, Bob Weir along side his band Ratdog. Tonight happened to be the 900th show that Bob Weir and Ratdog played since they formed in 1995. Bob Weir and Ratdog played to a sold out wall-to-wall packed audience in the beautiful Montclair concert venue. Just soon after a wonderful show put on by Cheap Trick at the Wellmont, Bob Weir and his band were able to put on a huge show which featured extravagant light shows and plenty of hits during the 2 sets that they played.

Bob Weir rose to prominence in the late 60s as one of the founding members of the famous rock band, The Grateful Dead. After years and years playing with the band, the group disbanded after the death of band member Jerry Garcia. Since then, Bob Weir has been playing with the rock group Ratdog.

The show set a tone for those who wanted to kick back relax and jam as Bob Weir and the band kicked off the show with Grateful Dead hit, “Hell in a Bucket”. As the rest of the show unfolded, a kickin’ light show supplemented the bands performance with the help of a well-timed fog machine.

As the second set began with an acoustic performance of “Walkin Blues”, the energy remained high and consistent throughout the Montclair venue. Bob Weir and Ratdog went through a number of Grateful Dead favorites as well as an original piece throughout the evening. The sold out Wellmont Theater Show dished out good vibes and great tunes to the large audience.
