A Gift of One Million Dollars

Local Business Man Gives Back to 50 High School Students

On September 24th, businessman Robert Carr gave $1 million in scholarships to Montclair State University to help 50 high school students go to college. The event included the mayors of Montclair, Newark, Paterson, and Orange.

Robert Carr, the CEO of Heartland Payment Systems, one of the nations largest processors of debit and credit card transactions, is helping financially disadvantaged kids go to college and graduate debt-free in fours years with his nonprofit organization, the Give Something Back Foundation. His foundation targets at risk 9th graders who don’t just suffer financially but also educationally. The foundation also has a mentorship program that pairs up the high school students with adult mentors to ensure successful college admission.

MSU has become the 3rd higher education institution in New Jersey to partner with the foundation, increasing the total number of such scholarships for future students to 160 in all of New Jersey. The first students to attend the university will begin in Fall 2019.
